The municipality of Castelló d’Empúries has, with nearly 7 km of beaches, a wide costal stretch of great natural interest, part of which forms the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà National Park. The increase in tourism during the summer months is a clear testament to its appeal to foreigners.

We have three main beaches:

• Can Comes Beach. This beautiful beach is, in fact, part of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà National Park.
• Empuriabrava Beach, which features all the services and facilities that our out-of-town guests could need.
• Rubina Beach, the most rustic of our three beaches, full of authentic, natural beauty.

Empuriabrava Beach guarantees our guests a maximum level of leisure and comfort. This beach is equipped with a full array of tourist services including full sanitation and security services. As a result, Empuriabrava beach has been awarded the prestigious “Bandera Azul” award, which recognizes excellence in areas of legality, accessibility, sanity, cleanliness, and security, which are regularly reviewed. This internationally recognized accolade, awarded each year by the ADEAC-FEE Foundation, aims to achieve sustainable seaside development and the correct management of the municipality’s coast line.

Our beach services include, showers, public restrooms, adapted restrooms, parking faculties and disabled access, bicycle parking areas, restaurants, public transport, payphones, garbage collection, children’s parks, sport facilities, bicycle hire, first aid point with amphibious chair and ambulance,  two water sampling points and a canal for public use.

The Red Cross offers a life guard service from June 15th to September 17th, 2006. They have four watch towers, three on Empuriabrava beach, and one on Rubina beach with personnel on duty from 10:00AM to 6:00PM. 

Finally, to improve the management of our cost line, we are preparing ourselves to apply for the top level “Q” certification, the aim of which is to improve quality and guarantee customer satisfaction, and also the efficiency, using environmental and social sustainability criteria, in the planning, development and management of the conditions of the beaches.
