The Jewish District
The important Jewish community of Castelló d’Empúries has been well documented since the middle of the 13th century. The Jewish community enjoyed certain privileges given to them by the counts and at one point had a population of around 300 people. This all ended with the decree of expulsion given by the Reyes Católicos in 1492.
The old neighborhood encompassed the area covered by the streets Muralla, Jueus, Call, Calabró, Peixateries Velles and Llana square. The neighborhood has retained the irregular shape of the medieval era.
